Bonus for civil servants...Alhamdulillah
KUALA LUMPUR: Civil servants will be paid a bonus of half-month salary with minimum payment of RM500.
The Government had also agreed to give a special payment of RM500 for pensioners, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The two payments involved 1.27 million civil servants and 590,000 government pensioners.
It involves an estimated expenditure of RM2bil.
“The bonus and special payment will be made in the middle of this month,” Najib, also the Fi-nance Minister, said in a statement yesterday.
The bonus was to appreciate the dedication and contributions of civil servants in successfully implementing the nation's development programmes.
“The Government hopes the bonus and special payment can lighten the burden of civil servants and government pensioners, and help them make preparations for the coming Aidilfitri celebration.
“This shows the Government is always concerned about the welfare of civil servants and government pensioners,” said Najib who resumed his official duty yesterday after undergoing surgery on the left knee last week.
The Prime Minister, who arrived at his office at Bangunan Perdana Putra at about 9am, appeared cheerful, dressed in a white long-sleeved shirt, blue necktie and dark jacket.
Najib, who was admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on July 31, was discharged on Wednesday.
He later chaired the National Economic Council meeting which started at 9.30am.
Among those who attended the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Noh Mohamed Yakcop and Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan, Finance Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Wan Aziz Wan Abdullah and Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz.
Later, the Prime Minister attended a breaking of fast with Cabinet Ministers, Mentris Besar and former prime ministers at Seri Perdana, here. - Bernama
